Meeting Between Amb. Peris Kariuki, Deputy Head of Mission Kenya Embassy and Mr. Marcos dos Anjos, Head of East and North Africa at Itamaraty (DAVOS)

On 16th March 2026, Amb. Peris Kariuki,Deputy Head of Mission, held a meeting with Mr. macros dos Anjos, Head of the East and North Africa Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federative Republic of Brazil to review ongoing areas of cooperation between Kenya and Brazil.

The meeting reviewed progress made following the 5th Kenya–Brazil Political Consultations held in May 2025, including the implementation of Memoranda of Understanding on Tourism Cooperation and Crop and Agriculture Development.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cultural cooperation, including the promotion of Kiswahili language and culture.

The meeting also discussed the ongoing negotiations on the Cooperation and Facilitation Investment Agreement (CFIA), with a technical meeting scheduled for March 2026 and the signing expected in April 2026. The agreement is expected to enhance trade and investment between the two countries.

In the energy sector, the Embassy informed the Brazilian side of the upcoming visit by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) to Brazil to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Agência Nacional de Energia Elétrica (ANEEL), aimed at strengthening cooperation in energy regulation and development.

The Embassy welcomed the successful APEX Brasil trade mission to Africa, which included Kenya, and noted the positive engagement between Brazilian and Kenyan institutions, including cooperation involving KARLO, KEMRI, KBI, Fiocruz, and the Brazilian Zebu Breeders Association.

The two sides also discussed cooperation in education, particularly Brazil’s PEC-G and PEC-PG programmes, and agreed to explore further collaboration in academic exchanges.

The meeting further discussed possible high-level visits between the two countries and the strengthening of engagement with Brazilian institutions, including the Department of Trade Promotion and the Africa Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Embassy of Kenya reaffirmed its commitment to deepening Kenya–Brazil relations in diplomacy, trade, culture, education, and sustainable development.
