Empowering Kenyan Students in Brazil and Countries of Accreditation: Student Mentorship Webinar 2026

The Embassy of the Republic of Kenya in Brasília, on Thursday, 26th February, 2026, in collaboration with the State Department for Diaspora Affairs, successfully hosted a Student Mentorship Webinar that brought together Kenyan students across Brazil and other accredited countries for an engaging and empowering session.

The webinar is an integral component of the Embassy’s comprehensive diaspora engagement strategy, which aims to enhance student support, foster academic excellence, and reinforce Kenya’s national values among young Kenyans studying abroad.

In his keynote, H.E. Amb. Dr. Andrew Karanja, Head of Mission, emphasized education as vital for personal and national growth. He stressed discipline, integrity, and diligence as core values that promote achievement and uphold Kenya’s reputation. He urged students to act lawfully, stay focused, and show resilience, reminding them they represent Kenya in their communities.

Dr. David Katiambo, Director Skills &Expertise Division at the State Department for Diaspora delivered an insightful presentation on career pathways, guiding students in aligning their academic pursuits with emerging global opportunities. He emphasized the importance of strategic career planning, networking, mentorship, and continuous skill development. Students were encouraged to take advantage of Brazil’s academic ecosystem and position themselves competitively for opportunities in Kenya, Africa, and globally.

Recognizing the challenges students abroad face, Ms. Shukry Sirat from the State Department for Diaspora Affairs addressed the critical issue of mental health. She offered practical strategies for managing academic pressure, adapting to new cultural environments, and seeking support when needed. Her session emphasized that mental well-being is integral to academic success and personal growth, and she encouraged open conversations and peer support within the Kenyan student community.

Ms. Virginia Wachira, a Kenyan Diaspora, shared a powerful personal testimony about her academic and professional journey, highlighting challenges, setbacks, and success. She inspired students to stay persistent, confident, and purpose-driven, reinforcing that determination and resilience are crucial for achievement.

The interactive session enabled students to engage directly with the speakers through questions and discussions, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose.
The Embassy reaffirms its commitment to supporting Kenyan students in Brazil and across its areas of accreditation. Through ongoing mentorship initiatives, dialogue platforms, and institutional partnerships, the Embassy and the State Department for Diaspora Affairs will continue to empower Kenya’s diaspora community as a vital partner in national development.
