Strengthening Kenya-Brazil Tourism Relations during a meeting with the President of the Brazilian Tourist Board (EMBRATUR)

The Embassy, led by Ambassador Dr. Andrew Karanja, paid a courtesy call to Brazillian Tourist Board (EMBRATUR) which is Brazil’s official tourism promotion agency. During the meeting, Ambassador Karanja met with EMBRATUR President Mr. Marcelo Freixo, Ms. Tania Neres, Coordinator of Afro-tourism, and other senior officials to discuss areas of mutual interest in tourist promotion.

The meeting was guided by the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Tourism Cooperation signed by Kenya and Brazil on 16th May, 2025, which provides a firm platform for future collaboration. The discussions centered on practical strategies to execute the MoU and establish bilateral tourism cooperation between the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) and EMBRATUR, focusing on combined marketing campaigns, familiarization (FAM) visits, capacity building, and technical exchange.
Afro-tourism and cultural exchange received special attention, emphasizing Kenya and Brazil’s shared heritage and people-to-people linkages. The Embassy underlined its commitment to promoting sustainable and inclusive tourism through strategic partnerships and proposed collaboration between the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) and EMBRATUR.
