12th May 2026 marked the commencement of the In-Person Negotiations of the Investment Facilitation and Cooperation Agreement (CFIA) between the the Republic of Kenya and the Federative Republic of Brazil, signifying another important milestone in the strengthening of bilateral economic and commercial relations between the two countries.
The Official Opening Ceremony was co-chaired by Ambassador Peris Kariuki, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Republic of Kenya in Brasilia and Ambassador Alexandre Ghisleni,
Acting Secretary for Economic and Financial Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil. Speaking during the opening session, both sides expressed optimism that the negotiations would further consolidate the growing strategic partnership between Kenya and Brazil while contributing towards enhanced trade, investments, and sustainable development cooperation between the two countries.
The negotiations brought together senior government officials, negotiators, and representatives from various Governmenal Institutions in Kenya and Brazil. The negotiations are aimed at establishing a modern, predictable, transparent, and mutually beneficial framework that promotes investment cooperation, facilitates trade and strengthens investor confidence between Kenya and Brazil.
The In-Person session follows six (6) rounds of virtual negotiations conducted by both sides between February and May 2026, during which both sides made significant progress across various areas of the draft Agreement.
The Embassy of the Republic of Kenya in Brasilia has played a key role in facilitating the advancement of the discussions and continues to reaffirm its commitment to supporting dialogue and initiatives aimed at deepening Kenya–Brazil economic and commercial diplomacy.
