Brasília, Brazil – 25th June 2025
The Kenya Embassy in Brazil, in collaboration with the South African Embassy, successfully participated in the second preparatory session for the upcoming FICOMEX (Forum for Commercial and Economic Exchanges).
FICOMEX is reported to be the largest annual international fair in Brazil bringing together seven (7) States of Central Brazil region including Goiás (GO), Federal District (DF), Mato Grosso (MT), Mato Grosso Do Sul (MS), Tocantins (TO), Maranhão (MA) and Rondônia (RO).
This virtual event brought together key stakeholders from both diplomatic missions, Brazilian partners, and representatives of the business community to explore avenues for increased trade and investment between Africa and Brazil.
A notable highlight of the session was a compelling presentation by Ms. Beatrice Kinyua, Commercial Attaché at the Kenya Embassy in Brasília, who highlighted Kenya’s substantial investment potential as a strategic entry point into the East African region.
Ms. Kinyua highlighted Kenya’s robust infrastructure, vibrant economy, and enabling policy environment, with emphasis on key sectors such as:
- Logistics and Transport: Leveraging Kenya’s world-class port of Mombasa, Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), and the LAPSSET corridor linking East and Horn of Africa.
- Manufacturing and Agro-processing: Driven by incentives under Kenya’s Industrial Transformation Programme and Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
- Technology and Innovation: Featuring a thriving startup ecosystem, world-renowned fintech solutions like M-Pesa, and Kenya’s position as the “Silicon Savannah”.
- Renewable Energy and Green Investment: With Kenya among global leaders in geothermal and clean energy development.
She also highlighted Kenya’s strategic location, stable governance, and its significant role as a key commercial and logistics hub in Africa, emphasizing the benefits these factors bring.
The event underscored the growing interest in South-South cooperation and the shared commitment between Kenya and South Africa to deepen economic engagement with Brazil.
It is envisioned that through the already signed instruments of cooperation between Kenya and Brazil namely the MoU on Crop and Livestock Development and the MoU on Tourism Cooperation, there will be deeper collaboration in these sectors. Further, ACIEG committed to follow up with Kenya to establish private-sector linkages with key Kenyan Business Member Organizations.
The Embassy expresses its gratitude to the FICOMEX organizing team, and the Association of Commercial, Industrial and Services of the State of Goiás (ACIEG), for the successful meeting. This meeting promises to be a pivotal platform for enhancing Africa-Brazil economic ties.
