Hon. Jonathan Mueke, Principal Secretary, State Department for Livestock Development led the Kenyan delegation in a bilateral with Officials from the Brazilian Rural Society (Sociedade Rural Brasileira – SRB), headed by Mr. Sergio Bortolozzo, President of SRB. The Embassy led by H.E Ambassador Dr. Andrew Karanja also participated in the meeting.
The Brazilian Rural Society (SRB), is one of Brazil’s oldest and premier agricultural institutions, representing the interests of agribusiness and rural producers, with a strong focus on modernizing agriculture and promoting sustainability.
The meeting underscored a shared commitment in deepening agricultural cooperation between Kenya and Brazil through technical exchange and institutional collaboration. It was noted that Brazilian technologies successfully applied in the Cerrado region present valuable lessons that could be adapted to Kenya’s savannah regions to enhance productivity and resilience.
Discussions further focused on the proposal to initiate and formalize cooperation between SRB and a Kenyan counterpart institution through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The proposed framework would facilitate knowledge sharing, technology transfer, farmer exchange programmes to Brazil for experiential learning, and the development of joint initiatives of mutual interest.
Priority value chains identified for collaboration included sugarcane farming, sugar and ethanol production, coffee production and value addition, as well as soybeans, alongside broader engagement in the livestock sector.
SRB expressed its readiness to support farmer-focused initiatives, and an invitation was extended for the organization to undertake a business mission to Kenya, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and advancing practical outcomes from the partnership.
