On Saturday, 25th April, 2026, the Embassy, in collaboration with the State Department for Diaspora Affairs, convened a virtual sensitization webinar to enhance access to government services for Kenyans living abroad. The session, titled the E-Citizen and DIIMS Sensitization Webinar, marked a significant step toward bridging the distance between the Government of Kenya and its diaspora community in Brazil and Countries of Accreditation.
The webinar garnered widespread engagement from Kenyans living in Brazil and Countries of Accreditation, thereby exemplifying the growing need for accessible, efficient, and digitized public services among expatriates.
In his opening remarks, H.E. Dr. Amb. Andrew Karanja, Head of Mission, welcomed participants and acknowledged the challenges faced by Kenyans abroad. He emphasized that geographic separation restricts access to essential services, despite their status as fundamental rights. The Ambassador reiterated the Embassy’s dedication to ensuring that no Kenyan is marginalized, highlighting digital platforms as crucial instruments for fostering inclusive governance.
The webinar featured live demos by government experts showcasing digital platforms like the DIIMS platform for Kenyans abroad, the E-Citizen Portal for public services, the Boma Yangu Programme for affordable housing, and services from the Directorate of Civil Registration for birth, death certificates, and document authentication.
Participating Government Departments include Foreign Affairs, Diaspora Affairs, E-Citizen, Civil Registration, and the Affordable Housing Board (AHB).
A notable highlight was the interactive Q&A segment, which provided participants with the opportunity to engage with officials, clarify doubts, and share experiences. Amb. Karanja encouraged attendees to seize this opportunity and serve as community ambassadors to disseminate the knowledge acquired.
In her closing remarks, Amb. Peris Kariuki, Deputy Head of Mission, expressed gratitude to participants and praised the technical teams for their professionalism. She highlighted that such initiatives are vital for strengthening Kenya’s relationship with the diaspora, fostering inclusion, and enabling citizens to access services more efficiently.
The webinar highlights Kenya’s use of technology to improve service delivery and engage its diaspora. It emphasizes the Embassy’s role in connecting Kenyans abroad and ensuring accessible, responsive government services.
