On 25th March 2026, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) led by Mr. Daniel Kiptoo Bargoria, Director General undertook a institutional visit to the Chamber of Electric Energy Commercialization (Câmara de Comercialização de Energia Elétrica – CCEE) in São Paulo, Brazil.
The Chamber of Electric Energy Commercialization (CCEE) is a private, non-profit institution responsible for operating Brazil’s electricity market by managing energy trading, contract registration, metering, pricing, and financial settlement between generators, distributors, traders, and consumers.
The EPRA delegation was received by Ricardo Simabuku, Director of Market Management at CCEE who welcomed the delegation and provided an overview of the institution’s operations.
The President of CCEE, Alexandre Ramos , joined meeting virtually and delivered his remarks, emphasizing that this engagement marks the beginning of a long-term partnership and reaffirming CCEE’s strong interest in collaborating with Kenya..
A detailed institutional presentation delivered by Edmilson Ferreira, Training Specialist at CCEE, comprising two parts. The first provided an overview oBrazil’s electricity sector, including its structure, market operations, and energy trading mechanisms, as well as the role of CCEE in ensuring an efficient and sustainable energy market. The second part focused on the CCEE Academy, highlighting its role in capacity building and knowledge exchange through training, certification, institutional partnerships, and international collaboration to strengthen expertise in energy market operations..
An additional presentation was made by Vanessa H. Grunwald on business development initiatives at CCEE. She outlined how the institution is developing new services and revenue streams, particularly in the context of the energy transition. The presentation emphasized a structured “funnel” approach targeting key areas such as data centers, gas markets, bilateral contracts, low-carbon hydrogen, biomethane, sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs), green diesel certification, and renewable energy certification (REC), including the CCEE Origin platform for tracking and certifying energy sources.
It is envisaged that Kenya will continue to strengthen its partnership with CCEE, particularly through the CCEE Academy, enabling Kenyan students and professionals to benefit from knowledge exchange, research collaboration, and technological advancement.
CCEE has also expressed its commitment to undertake a Business Mission to Kenya following the development of a joint agenda of priority areas, which may include market operations, business development, auctions, and technology transfer.
The Embassy of the Republic of Kenya was represented in the meeting by Ms. Beatrice Kinyua, Commercial Attaché. The Embassy remains committed to facilitating collaboration between EPRA, CCEE, and Kenyan research institutions as well as universities to leverage technology and innovation in advancing sustainable energy development between Kenya and Brazil.
