The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) led by Mr. Daniel Kiptoo Bargoria, Director General undertook a visit to the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (Agência Nacional do Petróleo, Gás Natural e Biocombustíveis – ANP) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on 23rd March 2026.
The delegation was received by Symone Araújo, Director of ANP, who in her remarks outlined the Agency’s mandate . She highlighted the role that ANP plays in regulating and supervising the oil, natural gas, and biofuels sectors; managing licensing processes & bidding rounds; monitoring contracts & ensuring compliance; promoting the fuel quality and supply security as well as advancing the implementation of biofuel policies.
Technical presentations were delivered by Fabio Cantinho of ANP’s Superintendency of Communications and Institutional Relations; Celma da Silva Rocco of ANP’s Superintendency of Biofuels and Quality of Products and Cristiane Sampaio, who provided insights into the Brazilian Biofuels Policy under the RenovaBio Program.
The discussions underscored shared priorities between the two institutions, particularly in strengthening regulatory frameworks, enhancing fuel quality standards, and advancing biofuels development. Both sides emphasized the importance of continued engagement through virtual technical exchanges, and knowledge sharing, especially in biofuels.
The Embassy of the Republic of Kenya in Brasilia facilitated the meeting and will continue to support follow-up engagements, including coordinating future technical exchanges, fostering institutional partnerships, and promoting collaboration in the energy sector between Kenya and Brazil.
