Presentation of Letters of Credence by H.E. Dr. Andrew Karanja to H.E. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva Coincides with Mashujaa Day (Heroes Day) Celebrations

In a significant diplomatic achievement, His Excellency Dr. Andrew Karanja, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kenya to the Federative Republic of Brazil, formally presented his Letters of Credence to His Excellency Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, at the Itamaraty Palace today.

The ceremony, held on Kenya’s national Mashujaa Day (Heroes Day), a day dedicated to honoring the heroes who fought for the country’s independence and continue to inspire its progress, symbolizes the strengthening of ties between the two nations. Ambassador Karanja conveyed warm greetings from Kenyan President William Ruto and emphasized Kenya’s commitment to boosting bilateral cooperation in key areas such as sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, trade, and cultural exchanges.

President Lula praised the ambassadors for their efforts and called for renewed multilateralism to address global issues. He emphasized the need for urgent collaborative action to fulfill the COP 29 climate change commitments and highlighted the significance of the $1.3 trillion climate financing framework. Lula urged governments to submit and meet their NDCs to ensure accountability and progress on climate change. He also supported Brazil’s Tropical Forest Forever Fund (TFFF) concept and promoted innovative ecosystem protection and sustainable development initiatives.

The event emphasizes Kenya’s strategic efforts to strengthen ties with Latin America, focusing on enhancing economic relationships and mutual support in international forums.
