The Embassy convened a “Blue Talks” seminar last week in conjunction with the Embassy of Portugal and the United Nations Office in Brasilia.
The event was in preparation for the Second United Nations Ocean Conference which will be co-hosted by Kenya and Portugal from 27th June to 1st July 2022 in Lisbon, Portugal.
The seminar highlighted the inter-linkages between Sustainable Development Goals 6 and 14, with participants emphasizing that the wellbeing of the oceans is intrinsically linked to the sustainable management of water on land.
Kenya’s Principal Secretary for Shipping and Maritime, Mrs. Nancy Karigithu, participated in the meeting virtually and stated that the upcoming conference offers a great opportunity to address the challenges facing our oceans including marine pollution and poor management of wastewater.
