Advancing Mechanization in Agriculture and Livestock Development between Kenya and Brazil through Strategic Partnership with the Brazilian Association of Machinery and Equipment Industries (ABIMAQ)

On 28th April 2026, the Embassy of the Republic in Kenya led by H.E Ambassador Dr. Andrew Karanja joined the Kenyan delegation headed by Hon. Jonathan Mueke, Principal Secretary, State Department for Livestock Development, to participate in the 31st Agrishow in Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo State, Brazil.

On the sidelines of the exhibition, one of the key engagements was a bilateral meeting with Officials from ABIMAQ namely, Ms. Rayane Alvarenga, Coordinator and Ms. Patricia Gomes, Foreign Trade Executive Director. The discussions focused on unlocking opportunities for collaboration in mechanization, a critical pillar for improving productivity in Kenya’s agriculture and livestock sectors.

As a principal organizer of Agrishow and a leading association representing key players in Brazil’s agricultural machinery sector, ABIMAQ offers a valuable entry point for Kenya to access advanced technologies and industry expertise.

It was noted that ABIMAQ had previously visited Kenya in February 2026 during the Outbound Business Mission coordinated by the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil), during which numerous opportunities were identified to advance cooperation in agricultural mechanization.

Building on the momentum, the Embassy further proposed that ABIMAQ consider mobilizing investors to Kenya’s Special Economic Zones (SEZs), leveraging the country’s strategic position as a gateway to regional and continental markets across Africa. Such investments would support local manufacturing, value addition, and the scaling of mechanization solutions tailored to Kenya’s agricultural needs.
