H.E. Ambassador Dr. Andrew Karanja featured as a keynote speaker and panelist at the International Roundtable on the Tropical Belt Panel held during the Rio+AGRO Forum. The session brought together members of the Diplomatic Corps, policymakers, and global experts to exchange perspectives in deepening collaborations in tropical agro-technological solutions.
Ambassador Karanja delivered a public lecture titled “Lessons from Kenya’s Climate-Smart Agriculture: Harnessing Brazil’s Partnership for Advanced Tropical Innovations”. The address highlighted Kenya’s implementation of its Climate-Smart Agriculture Strategy, which seeks to strengthen farmer resilience, mitigate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and address finance and capacity-building challenges in alignment with global frameworks such as the Paris Agreement and the African Union (AU) Malabo Declaration. The lecture further underscored Kenya’s innovative use of geothermal energy in agriculture, as well as efforts in advancing traceability in tea and coffee value chains to ensure sustainability and competitiveness in global markets.
The call to action underscored the importance of operationalizing the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Crops and Livestock between Kenya and Brazil. It was stressed that cooperation in technology transfer, precision agriculture, mechanization, agro-processing, animal genetics, breeding, and vaccines will be pivotal in advancing sustainable food systems for both nations.
