On 10th September 2025, the Embassy led by H.E Ambassador Dr. Andrew Karanja took part in the Expo Goiàs Genética Event on Brazilian Cattle Genetics. The event focused on showcasing the Brazilian cattle sector, promoting beef, highlighting the country’s remarkable advances in genetics, and fostering international partnerships.
The special meeting with Embassies was officiated by the Goiás State Secretary of Agriculture, Mr. Pedro Leonardo. Key organizations present included the State Secretariat for Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply (SEAPA) and the Brazilian Association of Zebu Breeders (ABCZ).
The Embassy held discussions with ABCZ Vice-President, Mr. Arnaldo Machado Borges and International Affairs Supervisor, Ms. Raquel Borges on potential areas of collaboration, referencing the recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Agriculture and Livestock Cooperation between Kenya and Brazil. ABCZ is one of the largest cattle breeder associations globally, with over 22,000 members and managing the world’s largest zebu herd approximately 238 million cattle.
The Expo showcased Brazil’s extensive use of advanced technology to increase productivity in zebu breeds such as Nelore, Gir, Guzerá, Tabapuã, Brahman, and Indubrasil. These breeds dominate Brazil’s beef and dairy sectors due to their adaptability to tropical and sub-tropical environments, heat resistance, and efficient resource utilization with minimal inputs.
Presentations highlighted programs under the Brazilian Cattle Project run by ABCZ, covering beef and milk production, the promotion of zebu genetics through semen and embryo exports, as well as specialized services.
It is envisioned that Kenya could work with the State of Goiás and the Brazilian Association of Zebu Breeders (ABCZ) on partnerships that would facilitate knowledge sharing in areas such as animal science, technology transfer, tropical adapted breeds, and strategies for enhancing productivity in beef and dairy production, alongside opportunities in export trade.
ABCZ expressed strong interest in collaborating with Kenya and organizing a Business Mission to Kenya in 2026 focusing on key areas of interest inter alia cattle feed, genetics, irrigation technology, vaccination and embryo transfer.
